PAGTUDLO: A CONFERENCE-WORKSHOP ON THE K to 12 LANGUAGE ARTS, MATHEMATICS AND ARALING PANLIPUNAN CURRICULUM



Call for Abstracts/Papers
Researchers working on language and its relevance on Philippine education are all invited to submit research abstracts/papers for oral presentations for PAGTUDLO: A Conference-Workshop on the K-12 Language Arts, Mathematics, and Araling Panlipunan Curriculum. The guidelines for submission are as follows:

  1. An author may submit one individual abstract and one joint abstract.
  2. The first page of the submission should contain the name(s) of the author/authors, affiliations, e-mail address, and the designated topic of the parallel sessions (see below).
  3. The second page should contain the abstract not exceeding 250 words;
  4. The submission can be written in any Philippine language, in Filipino or in English, but an English version is required for evaluation.
  5. The abstract should be submitted to jeanmillare@yahoo.com on or before February 2, 2013.
  6. Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance shall be given on February 7, 2013. 
  7. The submission of the full paper shall be on February 15,2013.
  8. All paper readers shall be entitled to a 30-minute presentation.

Goals
The goals of this conference-workshop are:
  • to produce and/or refine prototype learning materials in the K-12 Language arts, Mathematics, and Araling Panlipunan subjects for Kindergarten and the early grades;
  • to disseminate research on particular topics and themes that may be relevant to the new curriculum, including early grade reading and mathematics assessment;
  • to clarify prevalent misconceptions among educators about MTB-MLE and equip them with the correct teaching strategies and methods;
  • to serve as a forum for stakeholders to share, exchange, and sum up their experiences in carrying out the new policy and curricula. 

Topics for Parallel Sessions
  • Paper presentations in this conference-workshop include topics on:
  • Understanding elementary mathematical thinking
  • Best practices or difficulties in the use of the L1 teaching mathematics
  • The two track method in L1 instruction
  • Making a language primer and alphabet for beginning readers
  • Literature development in the L1
  •  Translating from the L2 to the L1, and vice versa
  • Early grade reading/mathematics assessment
  • Local heroes and histories
  • (Re)Constructing ethnicities and identities
  • Socio-cultural values and patterns of Philippine communities

Important Dates
  • February 2, 2013 - Deadline of submission of research abstracts/papers
  • February 7, 2013 - Notification of acceptance/non-acceptance
  • February 15, 2013 - Submission of full paper
  • February 22-24, 2013 - PAGTUDLO Conference

The registration fee is Php3,500, which shall cover the kit, handouts, daily snacks and lunck for three (3) days, but shall exclude accommodation.
